Public Comment is a vital part of our multistakeholder model. It provides a mechanism for stakeholders to have their opinions and recommendations formally and publicly documented. It is an opportunity for the ICANN community to effect change and improve policies and operations.
I understand that .internal is the bureaucratically-correct answer to this problem, but 8 characters is a lot to type. What if we take the word interNAL and declare .lan to be its abbreviation?
DNS has a long history of writing things backwards... this website could've been "org.icann.comment", for example.
So I propose that we either reserve .lan, or both .interNAL and its abbreviation .lan
.lan is .interNAL with fewer keystrokes
